Spotlight On Bordeaux, Monthly Features and Deals

It is not often that Bordeaux (or any wine region for that matter) has back to back great vintages, as in the case of these 2009’s (which tend to be a more fruit forward, opulent style) & 2010’s (Broader structure and more classically styled). Here is just a sampling of some great buys regarding both vintages, that really deliver, and are great values, considering where Bordeaux prices are currently at on average:

Chateau Roustaing Reserve vieilles vignes Rouge 2010 – “Attractively balanced, this shows fruitiness that’s supported by fine tannins. It’s a ripe wine, ready to drink now, with pleasing black currant and red plum flavors”. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot. Pure, fresh and unoaked. 89 pts.Wine Spectator – $14.99

Chateau La Vieille Cure Fronsac 2010 – “Dark roasted espresso and chocolate up front. A core of lush fig, plum and blackberry fruit sits in reserve with a long, polished finish.” 92 pts. Wine Spectator – $34.99

Chateau Labegorce Margaux 2010“Bright medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, violet pastille, licorice, tobacco and camphor. High pitched, pure and fresh, with black fruit and violet notes carrying through to the finish which is firmly tannic, but not hard. Good balance for aging.” 89 pts. International Wine Cellar – $39.99

Chateau Ormes De Pez Saint-Estephe 2010 – “Wonderful aromas of currants and blackberries with hints of spice. Full bodied with excellent tannins and a long, creamy texture to the finish. Great depth and great value for the vintage.” 95 pts. James Suckling – $49.99

Chateau Sociando Mallet 2010 – “Pungent aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, bitter chocolate, leather and flowers. Dense and juicy with a firmly tannic structure. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% cabernet Franc.” 92 pts. Stepehen Tanzer – $59.99

Costes Du Chateau Feret-Lambert Bordeaux Superieur 2009 – Sweet fruit on the palate, with blackberries, cedar, chocolate and forest floor notes to the finish. There is a lot of bang for the buck in this modestly priced Bordeaux. – $15.99

Chateau Recougne Bordeaux Superieur 2009 – Abundant flavors of cherries, plum, herbs, raspberries and oak that are framed by a firm tannic structure. – $15.99

Chateau Roc De Segur 2009 – Cinnamon, cloves and cocoa on the nose are followed by flavors of blackberry, cassis, plum and black currant with cedar and tobacco nuances. Earthy, with gutsy tannins. Another great value for the vintage! – $11.99
